Books We Love: How I Promote a Community of Readers in My Classroom

Now that we are a few weeks into the new school year and I can finally almost catch my breath (Ha!), I wanted to share one of my new favorite things about my classroom year after year.
I have set up this display in two classrooms now. It is super easy and is interactive for students.
I wish I had time in my schedule for students to regularly share what books they have been loving, but sadly I don’t. Therefore, I created this ‘Books We Love’ board!
Here’s how it works:
1. Once students have read a book they LOVED, they get a blank book spine.

2. They decorate their book spines with the Title and Author. I also like them to add the Call Number if it is from our school library or the Tape Design if it’s from our class library. (You can read about how I manage my classroom library by clicking here!)

3. I post it to our bulletin board. Now students can look to the ‘Books We Love’ board when they are looking for a good book to read!

You can download the Book Spine template for FREE by clicking here!
Distance Learning Option: Have your students fill out a google form of a book they love. Use the results to create a class list of recommended books!
How do you encourage your students to share their favorite books? What works for you? Comment below so we can connect!
